In this four-part series, we journey alongside Jeff Fuchs — explorer, tea hunter, oral historian — whose life has been shaped by ancient paths and fading voices. For over two decades, Jeff has walked the Tea Horse Road and its tributaries through the Himalayas, tracing the movement of one of the world's most traded and mythologized leaves.

 

We met at the Paris Tea Festival. The conversation began with a question about romanticising tea — and unfolded into something far deeper: a meditation on time, labour, culture, and continuity. From the cold, wind-bitten trade routes of Yunnan and Tibet to youth-led tea circles in Hawaii, Jeff brings us face to face with a truth often lost in glossy cups: that tea is not only ceremony — it is survival, memory, and movement.
